Education
An accelerated pace of school construction has been a major accomplishment of REVE Kandale over the past few years.
In 2019, under the leadership and advocacy of REVE Kandale co-founder Colette Ramm, the DRC government was persuaded to complete a six-classroom block for Gufwa-Gubila Primary School that had been started six years earlier but left unfinished. The classrooms were fully equipped with desks and blackboards, a new office for the headmaster and six latrines for the 276 students and 13 teachers at the school.
By the end of 2021, REVE Kandale had raised enough funds to build seven additional classrooms, giving the primary school its full complement of 13. There is still some work to do —installation of windows and a coat of paint —but the school block is already in use by Gufwa-Gubila students. One generous donor provided funds to purchase desks for all seven classrooms.
Multipurpose Education Center
For the first time, students took the state exam in the center rather than having to walk 30 miles or sitting in an overcrowded classroom with insufficient seating. Some 250 locally made desks have been installed for use during the state exams, thanks to a grant from the US embassy.
REVE Kandale Supported Schools & Population
We work with six schools with a total population of 1332 students (683 girls, 649 boys).
