REVE is an acronym that in French means “rehabilitation of green space and schools,” but it also spells out the French word for dream. Our name is no accident.

Water is life. Water gives life. In Kandale, collecting water poses a daily challenge that prevents women from leading productive lives and school-age girls from getting a quality education. In Kandale, no one takes water for granted. Thank you for supporting our recent online auction — Water is Life. We are grateful.

More than a decade ago, Colette Madishi Ramm had a dream that the community where she grew up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) could be transformed through better education and protection of the environment. The vehicle for that transformation is REVE Kandale Foundation, a U.S.- based 501 (c)(3) organization founded in 2016 that seeks a better life for the children of Kandale. Working with REVE Kandale, our counterpart organization on the ground in DRC, we help build schools, plant trees, educate girls on feminine hygiene, and assist the Kandale community in many more projects including access to clean water. Our long-term goal is to make Kandale a center of educational excellence in Southwest Congo.

Congo faces many challenges, but the community of Kandale has come together to chart a course for a better future. The community has the will, the energy, the desire, and the passion to complete this journey. The lives of their children depend on it.

On these pages you will learn more about Kandale -- the early years as a Mennonite mission community, the rich culture of the Pende people, the self-help nature of the school construction projects and tree-planting programs. And you will meet the leaders of the Kandale community and learn of their determination to build a better future.

We hope you can join us on this journey of a lifetime!

Vision and Mission

Since we founded REVE Kandale Foundation in 2016, we have been guided by the vision that every child in Kandale deserves quality formal and non-formal education and should develop to her or his full potential. Our Mission is to promote equal access to education for all girls and boys through the creation of a safe and protective learning and living environment.

 Program Areas

Over time, we have come to realize that building classrooms and providing learning materials are important, but that we must do more. Our programs have expanded to reflect the fact that a reliable supply of safe water contributes greatly to children's ability to learn and that replanting of forests provides a nurturing environment in which to live and learn. As our programs grow, we hope that those who support education in Kandale will grow with us.
