How to Help?
We’ve all heard the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”. In Kandale —where more than 1,000 children from surrounding
villages attend school—the proverb takes on a special meaning. That village extends all the way to the U.S., Canada, and Europe, where
more than 200 REVE Kandale Foundation donors have supported local efforts to make sure every child receives a high-quality education
in a safe and nurturing environment.
The REVE Kandale Foundation’s goals this year, established in coordination with community members, include:
Continuing our effort to build a modern education complex that will make Kandale a center of educational excellence in the Kwilu Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Why? Education, as one of Kandale’s prominent school headmasters says, “is the basis of humanity and it makes us who we are.”
Constructing a set of seven additional classrooms for the primary school.
Why? More children will be able to attend school and teachers will no longer need to share classrooms.
Installing a water catchment system as a stop-gap measure to meet Kandale’s water needs and researching the feasibility of installing a solar-powered water pump at the local water source as a long-term solution.
Why? A landslide last year made access to clean water a time-consuming and difficult daily trek down a steep ravine for Kandale’s children. The need for a water pump is made more urgent by the three-month dry season from May to August.
Will you join hands with us to expand the village circle and raise the children of Kandale? Together we can continue to bring hope to Kandale and meet urgent educational needs.
